Massachusetts – Jr. Tech, Inc. has received a $70,000 multi-year grant from The Akamai Foundation, the corporate philanthropy entity of Akamai Technologies to inspire the next generation of female STEM professionals and to close the gender gap in STEM.  The Akamai Foundation has provided support as the Lead Sponsor for the next three Massachusetts Girls STEM Summit-Statewide events including the 2020 Summit on Sunday, April 5, 2020, and again in 2021 and 2022. The Akamai Foundation is a private corporate foundation dedicated to excellence in mathematics, with the aim of promoting math’s importance and encouraging America’s next generation of technology innovators.

The Girls STEM Summit-Statewide is the premiere program serving 300 high school girls in grades 8–12 interested in pursuing STEM career paths. Girls STEM Summit-Statewide features hands-on learning during career sessions, a keynote talk by a highly accomplished female STEM leader, and female STEM professionals working as role models and showcasing STEM fields.

Goals for Girls STEM Summit-Statewide include:

  • Impact and bridge the gap between girls’ passion for the topics and helping them find their way to successful STEM careers.
  • Inspire girls to pursue STEM fields.
  • Fill an important gender gap in STEM jobs today and into the future.
  • Present topics and learning sessions in a way that makes STEM topics interesting, relevant to career paths, and approachable.
  • Provide hands-on career sessions highlighting a variety of STEM industries.
